What came first, the chicken or the egg? It’s an age-old conundrum, with no right or wrong answer.
A similar question can be posed in today’s change landscape: What comes first, a want to change, or a need to change? Think about your own life, do you change because you want to or because you have to? In most cases, there is usually a driver for change, a trigger, a catalyst.
In organizations, the biggest trigger for change in today’s market is technology.
Technology is pushing people forward. For consumers and businesses, digital transformation is a necessity to keep themselves competitive. Large scale technology programs are being funded to revolutionize customer experience with in every industry, be it in governments or investment banks.
However, as companies move through this technological change journey, they are constantly being met with one clear obstacle a reluctance by people to change.
It is estimated that 70 percent of all change programs fail to stick to their goals, mainly due to employee resistance and lack of management support (McKinsey 2017).
But that’s to be expected, right? We are living in a world where the workplace contains baby boomers who lived in a world where mobile phones were only available in Sci-Fi movies, working alongside Generation Z’s, who don’t remember a world without the internet.
The diversity within our teams is so wide-ranging that it’s becoming increasingly difficult to employ a one-size-fits-all methodology for successful change. Moreover, its time for organizational leaders to invest in their people change programs to ensure sustainable change.
At Eleven Consulting, people are our passion. People are innovators, are leaders, and are agents of change. Our focus is putting people at the heart of the change, whether it be a technology delivery or project delivery.
The first step in any organization’s journey is to understand what drives and motivates it’s people. It is with that ethos that we have been able to facilitate successful change within sustainable technology implementations within project initiations and within people change initiatives in organizations across the globe.
